Dennis Prager Capital Punishment Essay Capital punishment is the lawful infliction of the deathpenalty and since ancient times it has been used to punish a wide varietyof offenses. The Bible prescribes death for murder and many other crimessuch as kidnapping and witchcraft. In the 1500s in England only the majorfelonies carried the death penalty. Some of these felonies are treason,murder, larceny, burglary, rape, and arson. In the 1800s however ,parilament had enacted many new capital offenses, and hundreds of personswere being sentenced to death each year. In the United States prior to thecivil war the death penalty was imposed on slaves for many crimes, but thepenalty for others were less severe.Although people argue that the deathpenalty is needlessly cruel, it should be used in every state, becauseparoled murders get out of jail too fast and the only punishment equal tomurder is the death penalty. Capital punishment is always going to be questioned by thestates. The United States doesnt like the death penalty because they sayits not a valid purpose of punishment. The states say a punishment thatconflicts harm can hardly be good for us. The states dont want to kill aman who is already imprisoned. They say hes already being punished. However the states dont keep all murders in jail forever. Someof these criminals will get out and will probably start all over again. Itsnot that they have to kill, but they have a problem. Problem or no problemthe states just cant let a killer get away with it. These criminals aretaking an innocent persons life and they get to live. They also get a placeto live, free food and dont have to pay for nothing. They get to kick backwhile another family suffers for it. If the dont care about killingsomebody they wont mind if you execute them or else they wounldnt havedone it. Rarly do you see a person kill another person and he doesnt meanit. Secondly there is no punishment that you can give a murderer. There is nothing painful enough you can do to a person who has killed aloved one. These criminals dont deserve a punishent. Punishment is forpeople who are doing smaller crimes. A murderer will kill again because hehas no feelings for nobody and doesnt care what happens. Some murdererswill ask for death role but rarly does it happen. If the states have anyfeelings for their citizens they should let them vote on it. The citizenspay taxes and they want a death penalty not a punishment for murderers. The United States needs to make a change for its self and startdoing whats right for its counrty. Even thought two wrongs never make aright , if its the best thing you can do you have to do it. The deathpenalty will give people a clear warning before they plan murderingsomebody. The death penalty will do more good then harm ,and will make theUnited States a better and safer place to live.
